Efficient e-catalog management with InfoZoom: Knowing what's inside!
The handling of e-catalog applications is often inadequate for the user at critical points. Particulaly when searching for a product that satisfies certain requirements, or when comparing a selection of interesting, conventional navigation and search techniques for e-catalogs often provide no overview and only insufficient possibilities for a product description or they are difficult to operate.
With using InfoZoom, the user can describe his or her desired product using all the attributes available in the database and is not tied to a predefined category system to navigate in the product catalog. For each search-relevant attribute, the user simply selects the category of interest. The set of candidate products is quickliy determined and can be compared for differences. With this type of navigation method, the user comes into "contact" with very different products so that a purchasing decision for a completely different product could be achieved: While navigating in the catalog, several other products of interest catch the user's eye as if he or she were strolling through a department store. We call this effect the "InfoZoom department store experience."
In addition, InfoZoom provides a shopping cart function that offers innovative options for positioning individual products against each other or within the entire product range. Products can be described in InfoZoom through a variety of media. The InfoZoom shopping experience is rounded of by direct access to the Internet, integration of ipictures or a product presentation in audio and video form. Ordinary search by entering keywords and regular expressions is also supported.

Since CeBIT 2004, we have been using InfoZoom on our website www.cebit.de to search in the extensive CeBIT exhibitor catalog. This provides visitors and interested people with a unique overview of the exhibiting companies already before the fair starts and saves them time searching for specific information.
In addition the user is not restricted to predefined search criteria (name, nationality, location) in the search for exhibitors using InfoZoom but, instead, can expand his or her search at random by other categories (e.g. search by product groups, areas, categories, or hall). The exhibitors in question are quickly found or can be compared with each other.
