Quick help InfoZoom in 5 steps

1.  Open data sources
2.  Create data
3.  Select and search
4.  Analyze – simple and multidimensional
5.  Create graphics and reports

1. Open data sources

InfoZoom can access all common data that are available in tabular form. With File - Open, you can read in InfoZoom files (*.foc, *.fox , *.fop) as well as tables from ASCII files (*.txt, *.csv). With File - Open Database, databases are optionally addresses via ODBC or OLE DB. IN addition, InfoZoom features a wizard for data exchange with Microsoft Excel.

2. Create data

InfoZoom presents the read data in three different views: Wide table, condensed table and overview.

Wide table:

This is the classic table display. A record (object) is displayed in a column, the features of an object are described using attributes.

Overview:

This is the perfect view for the first step. The entire table is horizontally condensed to display all objects on the width of the screen. There is no annoying scrolling from left to right.

Sample view

InfoZoom combines identical values of an attribute in one cell. The resulting cell widths provide information about the distribution (frequency) of the values of the respective attribute. Each attribute value is displayed in ascending order, either alphabetically or numerically; alphanumerical values only with first letter in case of large data volume, numerical values as level between minimum and maximum of all occurring numerical values. In the "Overview", the contents of all attribute lines are sorted independent of each other, i.e. values positioned above each other are without direct reference.

Compressed table:

Unlike the attribute-type sorting in the overview, in this overview InfoZoom represents all cell values of a table according to their object assignment on one screen width, i.e. values positioned above each other are in direct reference.

Sample view

Here you can sort individual attributes in ascending or descending order by clicking on the arrows. In this case, the sort defined last is always the primary one (red arrow), while a previously defined sort is the secondary one (gray arrow). Even if you are in the overview, the following applies: If the number of remaining objects is smaller than 11, InfoZoom automatically switches to the condensed table.

3. Select and search data

If you are interested in the content of a specific cell, simply select it by double-clicking. You can also mark the cell with a single click and restrict the selection with the Zoom in button or exclude values (Exclude). Use Zoom out to cancel the restriction of a selected attribute to certain values. Clicking on the Reset button cancels all previously made selections.
Simultaneous selection of several cells is accomplished by pressing the Control (Ctrl) or the Shift key together with the corresponding clicks of the mouse. By dragging the mouse, you select areas between two values. The selection steps described can be performed any number of times until you have restricted your data to the desired information.

4. Analyze – simple and multidimensional

Use the formula editor to define new calculations (derived attributes) that create new KPIs based on existing data. Use the Analysis button to define multidimensional sections of an OLAP cube. Coloring attribute values (Colors button) allows you to recognize dependencies between attributes at a glance and to define threshold values and make them visible.

5. Create graphics and reports

You have the option to transfer your analysis results to integrated reporting and business graphics components. Mark the desired attributes and then click on, e.g., the chart or report button. The result is a corresponding presentation graphic or a classic table display. In addition, you can conveniently transfer the data to Microsoft® Excel or Crystal® Reports.
